blank screen after install

I just installed beta 2 on my external usb hard drive. When it boots up, i select windows vista from the dual-boot screen...and see absolutely nothing for about another minute. Then my computer restarts. I tried it again and was asked if I wanted to boot into safe mode, which I did, but still no luck.
I'm wondering if this problem is because I installed vista on the external usb hard drive. Has anyone else done this and gotten it to work? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

You cannot install Vista to an external USB drive. It cannot boot from an external USB drive.
